World Art Day is celebrated every year on April 15 to recognise the work of artists and underline the significance of art in life.

In 1948, during the third general conference of UNESCO in Beirut, Lebanon, the director general was tasked with recognising ways in which artists could contribute to the aims of UNESCO.

Simultaneously, this initiative was meant to help identify the social, political, and economic hurdles that artists faced in their profession.
