Closing Bell

India's stock benchmarks snapped two-day winning streak in a volatile session. The Sensex and Nifty reversed nearly 1% gains as fall in telecom, realty, metals and consumer durables offset the rise in fmcg and healthcare stocks.

The Sensex fell 0.20% to 54,208.53. The 30-stock gauge gained over 460 points to an intraday high of 54,786. The Nifty also declined by similar magnitude to 16,240.30.

The S&P BSE MidCap almost mirrored its larger peers while the S&P BSE SmallCap outperformed Sensex and Nifty, rising 0.33%. Sixteen of the 19 sectoral indices declined with S&P BSE Realty losing nearly 2% and S&P BSE Telecom falling 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,920 stocks advanced, 1,429 declined and 117 remained unchanged.

Mid-Day Market Update: Sensex, Nifty Erase Gains; Power Grid, BPCL, Tata Motors Fall

India's stock benchmarks erased nearly 1% gains, as rise in fmcg, power and pharma stocks were offset by the fall in realty, metal and telecom stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex was little changed at 54,275.33. The NSE Nifty 50 also erased all the intraday gains at 16,256.75.

The S&P BSE MidCap almost mirrored its larger peers while S&P BSE SmallCap outperformed Sensex and Nifty, gaining 0.25%. Twelve of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. declined with S&P BSE Realty index losing over 1.6%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,835 stocks advanced, 1,399 declined and 152 remained unchanged.

RHI Magnesita Rises On MSCI Index Inclusion

Shares of RHI Magnesita India Ltd. headed for a fourth day of gains following its inclusion in the MSCI India Small Cap Index.

Sensex, Nifty Set To Fall; Bharti Airtel, Indian Oil, Dr. Lal Pathlabs, DLF, ITC In Focus

Asian stocks rose on Wednesday after a rally in U.S. stocks amid hopes of an easing crackdown on Chinese technology firms.

Treasuries fell after U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank "won't hesitate" to tighten monetary policy beyond neutral to address inflation under control.

Equity advanced in Japan and Australia. U.S. futures gained after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 added at least 2%. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early barometer of India's benchmark Nifty 50, fell 0.24% to 16,229.50 points as of 8:00 am.

Crude rose to $114 per barrel. Bitcoin hovered around $30,300.
