The Hinduja family is at the top of the UK's Asian Rich List 2022 with the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty making their debut. Sunak and his wife are ranked 17th on the list, with an estimated worth of 790 million pounds.

For the eighth time in a row, the Hinduja family tops the list, with an estimated worth of 30.5 billion pounds, up 3 billion pounds from the previous year. Hinduja Group is a multinational conglomerate based in India and is present in a total of eleven sectors. At the 24th annual Asian Business Awards held at the Westminster Park Plaza hotel on Wednesday night, London mayor Sadiq Khan gave Ritu Chhabria, daughter of Gopichand Hinduja, co-chairman of the Hinduja Group, a copy of the Asian Rich List 2022.

Oliver Dowden, MP, Chancellor of Dutchy of Lancaster, who was the chief guest, addressed the crowd and stated, "every year, we see the British Asian Community continue to grow in stature which comes as no surprise to me personally." Dowden further added, "Throughout my life, I have seen first hand the hard work, determination and entrepreneurship of the British Asian community. And, of course, in my latest job, I have a British Asian Boss, my very good friend Mr. Rishi Sunak, the United Kingdom's first-ever British Asian Prime Minister."

This year's Asian Rich List featured 16 billionaires from the UK, one more than in 2017. The majority of these billionaires have seen a gain in fortune or have seen their wealth remain stable from the previous year. With a jump of 4 billion pounds to 8.8 billion pounds, Sri Prakash Lohia and family have had the wealthiest growth on this year's list.

The other richest people on the list are Lakshmi Mittal and his son Aditya (12.8 billion pounds), Prakash Lohia and his family (8.8 billion pounds), and Nirmal Sethia (6.5 billion pounds).

The event's host and executive editor of Asian Marketing Group (AMG), Shailesh R Solanki, claims that the Asian Rich List is the only source for information on Asian wealth in Britain.

On October 25, Sunak, 42, took his oath as prime minister. At the age of 42, he is the youngest person to assume the post in more than 200 years and the first Prime Minister to take the oath under the new King Charles III. He is the first person of Indian ancestry to govern the UK and the first non-white, person of colour to become the Prime Minister.
