Tulsi Vivah will be celebrated on November 5, 2022, this year. Tulsi Vivah or the marriage of Tulsi with Lord Vishnu is a Hindu ritual, celebrated every year on Shukla Paksha Ekadashi in the month of Kartik. Tulsi is one of the most important and commonly grown herbs in India. Tulsi is also celebrated as a Goddess, and people worship the Tulsi plant every morning. It is believed that the ritual of Tulsi Vivah helps remove obstacles in marriage and bring happiness into the lives of married couples. It is also believed that a couple who is childless gets blessed with a child if they organise this pooja with pure intentions. Moreover, couples without a daughter also perform the ceremony of Kanyadaan, considering Goddess Tulsi as their daughter.

Dwadashi Tithi Begins on November 4, 2022, at 06:08 PM.

Dwadashi Tithi ends on November 5, 2022, at 05:06 PM.

The Shubh Muhurat is:

Morning Shubh Muhurat at 07:58 AM to 09:20 AM.

Afternoon Shubh Muhurat at 01:27 PM to 02:49 PM.

Evening Shubh Muhurat at 05:33 PM to 07:11 PM.

Every year, Hindus celebrate Tulsi Vivah with extreme enthusiasm as it holds great significance in their culture. Majorly, Hindus who are devotees of Lord Vishnu celebrate this day on a grand level. In almost all areas of India, temples get dolled up to perform a beautiful wedding of Goddess Tulsi with Lord Shaligram. On the day of Tulsi Vivah, Tulsi Mata or the Tulsi plant and Shaligram get well dressed like a bride and groom, and then people perform all Hindu wedding rituals.

Furthermore, the wedding season begins in India with Devutthana Ekadashi or Tulsi Vivah day. With the date of this Ekadashi, the season of happy ceremonies begins. On this day, Lord Shiva, who was in a state of Yogic sleep under the Kshirasagara for four months, woke up. Also, the Chaturmas period comes to an end. Majorly, Shaligram married Tulsi to honour a boon that she was bestowed with during her previous birth. To understand this better, let’s see the story.

There’s a beautiful story behind this ritual. Behind Tulsi Vivah, there was a demon who appeared from the rage of Lord Shiva and ended up becoming an enemy of all deities. Later, he married Vrinda as suggested by Shukracharya, the Guru of the Demon, because she was a loyal woman and a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Nobody could defeat the demon, Jalandhar. Vrinda decided to perform a pooja for her husband, but Lord Vishnu knew that he would become immortal. So, Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Jalandhar, performed the pooja with Vrinda and destroyed her character in that way. That's why she cursed Lord Vishnu to become a stone which is now worshipped as Shaligram. After knowing this, Goddess Laxmi went to Vrinda and requested her to take the curse back. Vrinda then relieved Lord Vishnu. As a result, Lord Vishnu blessed her that she would become Tulsi and because of her true devotion towards him, he married her as Shaligram. And further, Lord Vishnu's pooja would be incomplete without her. Since then, Hindus celebrate Tulsi Vivah.
