Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh Election Results 2022 Highlights: Modi Greets Voters In Gujarat, HP, Delhi

Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the undisputed winner of the Gujarat Assembly elections in 2022, winning a record high of 156 seats. The party cornered 52.5% of the total votes in the state to return to power for the seventh time.

Congress, the second party in the seat tally, won only 17 seats despite a vote share of 27.3%.

AAP, the newcomer in Gujarat politics, managed to make inroads in the state on its first try. The party won five seats and secured a vote share of 12.9%, bagging the tag of national party in the process.

Addressing BJP workers in Delhi, Narendra Modi extended his gratitude towards voters in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. "Even where BJP did not win, the party's vote share is a testament to people's love," he said.

In a neck-and-neck fight, Congress bagged 40 seats in Himachal Pradesh to push BJP out of power in the hilly state. The saffron party managed to bag 25 seats.

BJP returned to Gujarat with a record victory, crossing the 150-seat mark for the first time in the state. With this, the saffron party will come back to power in the western state for the seventh time.

The electoral message from Gujarat is crystal clear that Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the single-most popular leader, and the people of the state are going to firmly stand behind him when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party bids for a consecutive third term on the national stage in 2024 general polls.

In response to PM Modi's call for the people of Gujarat to break his electoral record of winning 127 out of 182 seats in assembly elections, the BJP made history in the state by winning at least 153 seats for the first time and retaining power for the seventh term. Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani won the Vadgam seat with a margin of 4,928 seats. He defeated Manibhai Vaghela of BJP to secure the seat.

BJP is set to assume power in Gujarat for the seventh time, registering a record victory. The part is ahead in the state with a vote share of 53.2%, whereas Congress trails with aa vote share of 26.9%. AAP managed to get 12.7% votes in the state, helping it attain the national party status.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress edged out BJP in a close contest. The Grand Old Party secured almost 44% votes in the state. Earlier today, Jairam Thakur resigned from the office of CM after conceding defeat.

Jairam Thakur handed over his resignation as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh to the state's governor, ANI reported. Although Thakur retained the Seraj seat, BJP lost the state Assembly election to Congress.

"We accept the people's verdict with humility," tweeted Thakur after tendering his resignation.

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the BJP workers in Gujarat for a stupendous win in the state. "Each of you is a champion," Modi tweeted.

He thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh for their support to BJP as the party lost the state of Congress in a close fight.

BJP is likely to achieve the 150-mark in Gujarat, as the party has bagged 124 seats and leading on 32 seats. Congress has reached double digit territory, winning 11 seats and leading on six others. AAP has won four seats so far and is leading on one more.

Congress won the state Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh as the party won 38 seats. The party is still ahead on two seats.

BJP has won 18 seats in the state and is leading on seven seats.

Aam Aadmi Party was accorded the status of a national party, on account of its presence of Gujarat. The party currently has 12.9% vote share in the state Assembly elections.

National convenor Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the party workers on the accomplishment in a video message.

Jignesh Mevani is maintaining a slight lead in the contest for the Vadgam seat. Mevani, contesting on a Congress ticket is ahead with a margin of 2,744 votes, with Manibhai Vaghela of BJP in tow.

Alpesh Thakor of BJP defeated Himanshu Patel of Congress by a margin of 43,064 votes to win the Gandhinagar South seat.

Talking to reporters as his party secured a strong lead in Himachal Pradesh, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that he is joyous about the victory, but the party has a long way to go.

By 4:15 p.m., BJP bagged 93 seats, while leading on 64 others. Congress won seven seats, and was ahead on nine seats. AAP had won on three seats and was leading on two.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel, who quit Congress to join BJP, defeated AAP candidate Amarsinh Anandji Thakor to win the Viramgam seat. He won with a margin of 51,707 votes.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel retained the crucial Ghatlodia seat. He defeated Amee Yajnik of Congress by 1.92 lakh votes.

The Grand Old Party is still leading on 15 seats in the hilly state. BJP is ahead on 12 seats and won on 14. Others have won 3 seats.

Incumbent Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur has maintained his lead in the Seraj Assembly seat, holding a margin of 38,183 votes over Congress' Chet Ram. BJP, however, is on the backfoot in the state. Thakur told ANI that he will tender his resignation to the governor in some time.

BJP national president JP Nadda congratulated in a tweet Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, state party chief CR Paatil, and BJP cadres in the state for securing a strong lead in the state Assembly elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Kantilal Amrutiya has won the Morbi constituency of Gujarat, where a deadly bridge collapse led to the loss of over 140 lives on Oct. 30.

He defeated Congress' Jayanti Patel by a margin of over 62,000 votes.
