Gujarat Election Results 2022: BJP Bags 156 Seats In Record Victory

Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the undisputed winner of the Gujarat Assembly elections in 2022, winning a record high of 156 seats. The party cornered 52.5% of the total votes in the state to return to power for the seventh time.

Congress, the second party in the seat tally, won only 17 seats despite a vote share of 27.3%.

AAP, the newcomer in Gujarat politics, managed to make inroads in the state on its first try. The party won five seats and secured a vote share of 12.9%, bagging the tag of national party in the process.

Gujarat Welcomes Back BJP, Himachal Elects Congress

BJP is set to assume power in Gujarat for the seventh time, registering a record victory. The part is ahead in the state with a vote share of 53.2%, whereas Congress trails with aa vote share of 26.9%. AAP managed to get 12.7% votes in the state, helping it attain the national party status.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress edged out BJP in a close contest. The Grand Old Party secured almost 44% votes in the state. Earlier today, Jairam Thakur resigned from the office of CM after conceding defeat.

Jairam Thakur Resigns As Himachal CM

Jairam Thakur handed over his resignation as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh to the state's governor, ANI reported. Although Thakur retained the Seraj seat, BJP lost the state Assembly election to Congress.

"We accept the people's verdict with humility," tweeted Thakur after tendering his resignation.

Modi Congratulates BJP Workers For Gujarat Win, Thanks People Of Himachal For Support 

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the BJP workers in Gujarat for a stupendous win in the state. "Each of you is a champion," Modi tweeted.

He thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh for their support to BJP as the party lost the state of Congress in a close fight.

BJP Set For Record Victory In Gujarat

BJP is likely to achieve the 150-mark in Gujarat, as the party has bagged 124 seats and leading on 32 seats. Congress has reached double digit territory, winning 11 seats and leading on six others. AAP has won four seats so far and is leading on one more.

Himachal Pradesh Goes The Congress Way

Congress won the state Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh as the party won 38 seats. The party is still ahead on two seats.

BJP has won 18 seats in the state and is leading on seven seats.

AAP Gets National Party Status

Aam Aadmi Party was accorded the status of a national party, on account of its presence of Gujarat. The party currently has 12.9% vote share in the state Assembly elections.

The hill state is looking at a tight competition between the BJP and Congress, with both trying to win in Himachal Pradesh. The counting of votes will begin at 8:00 a.m. across 59 locations throughout the state.

Himachal Pradesh went to polls on Nov. 12 in a single phase. The voter turnout in the state was 74.61%, according to the Election Commission of India.

Most exit polls for Himachal Pradesh show the BJP holding a minor advantage over the Congress in a neck-and-neck race.

One exit poll—India Today-Axis My India—even finds the scales tipping in Congress' favour.

Gujarat Election Results: BJP Set For A Sweep

The electoral battle in Gujarat nears its culmination, with the counting of votes for the Legislative Assembly about to begin at 37 centres across the state on Dec. 8.

Exit polls for Gujarat, across the board, project a BJP clean sweep in its bastion and a return to power for the seventh time. The home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the polls in two phases to elect MLAs for 182 Vidhan Sabha seats. The overall voter turnout was 64.3%, around 4% less than what was seen in the 2017 polls.

The traditional contest between the BJP and Congress in Gujarat saw a new entrant this time in the AAP. Pre-result surveys show BJP managing a comfortable lead to cross the winning mark of 92 seats in the state, whereas Congress will be a distant second, while AAP will barely manage to make some inroads in the western state this time.

Significant names in the fray include the incumbent Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Patidar leader Hardik Patel, Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, Isudan Gadhvi of AAP, and Rivaba Jadeja—wife of Ravindra Jadeja, among others.
