Covid-19 India Updates: Active Tally Remains Under 30,000 As Pandemic Wanes

Fresh Covid-19 cases in India lagged daily recoveries for two straight weeks, dragging down the active caseload.

The country added 2,756 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Oct. 9. Daily recoveries stood at 3,393. That pulled the active case tally to 28,593.

Karnataka Logs 69 New Covid-19 Cases

The Covid-19 cases declined further in Karnataka on Sunday with 69 fresh infections, taking the total tally to 40,65,691.

The state on Saturday recorded 85 cases, the health department said. There was no fatality reported due to coronavirus today and the death toll remained at 40,245.

In its daily Covid bulletin, the department said 28 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 40,22,742.

The active cases stood at 2,662, the bulletin said. Bengaluru Urban district accounted for the maximum 22 cases. Also, infections were reported in other districts including eight in Dakshina Kannada and seven in Udupi.

The department said 15 districts reported zero infection and nil death. A total of 7,471 samples were tested in the state including 6,076 using RT-PCR methods, taking the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6.93 crore. Further, 474 people were inoculated on Sunday.

Maharashtra Sees 455 Covid-19 Cases

Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 455 Covid-19 cases, which took the tally to 81,24,754, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,48,357, a health official said.

The recovery count increased by 356 in the last 24 hours to touch 79,74,031, leaving the state with an active caseload of 2,366, he said.

State health department data revealed the recovery rate was 98.14% and the fatality rate stood at 1.82%. So far, 8,49,52,601 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the state, including 17,944 in the last 24 hours, as per official data.

Puducherry Registers 11 New Covid-19 Cases

Puducherry recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases, taking the overall tally to 1,74,854, a senior Health Department said on Sunday.

Director of Health G Sriramulu in a release said the 11 cases were identified during examination of 384 samples in the last 24 hours, ending 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Puducherry and Yanam regions reported one new case each, while Karaikal had nine infections. Mahe reported zero case.

The active cases were 161 which included five patients in hospitals and the remaining 156 in home quarantine. Sriramulu said 49 patients recovered during the last 24 hours, while overall recoveries were 1,72,719. There was no fresh fatality in any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam and the death toll remained at 1,974.

The Department of Health has so far examined 24,15,582 samples and found 20,46,892 of them to be negative. The test positivity rate was 2.86%, while fatality and recovery rates were 1.13% and 98.78%, respectively.

Sriramulu said the Department of Health has till now administered 22,42,588 doses, which comprised 9,93,439 first doses, 8,57,386 second doses and 3,91,763 booster doses.

Odisha Logs 89 New Covid-19 Cases

Odisha's Covid-19 tally rose to 13,34,876 on Sunday as 89 more people, including six children, tested positive for the infection, a health department bulletin said.

The Covid-19 death toll remained at 9,199 as no new fatality due to the disease was reported in the last 24 hours, it said.

Besides, 53 other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far, the bulletin said. Odisha now has 588 active Covid-19 cases, while 13,25,036 patients have recovered from the disease, including 124 in the last 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was at 1.01% as 89 fresh cases were detected from 8,788 sample tests.

Thane Reports 59 New Covid-19 Cases

Maharashtra's Thane district reported 59 new cases of Covid-19, taking the tally of infections to 7,45,393, a health official said told PTI.

The active case tally stands at 295 in the district.

The toll remained unchanged at 11,962, while the count of recoveries has reached 7,33,863, the official added.

Active cases now account for 0.06% of the total tally, while recoveries form 98.75%.

India has administered over 218 crore jabs, with 4.73 lakh vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours. Total tests conducted so far stand at 89.69 crore, with 2.39 lakh in the last 24 hours.
