While Samvat 2078 was marked by volatility stemming from inflation, geopolitical tensions, and rate hikes, analysts expect some of the pressures to ease in Samvat 2079.
The NSE Nifty 50 fell more than 2%, while Nifty 50 slipped 1.8% in the Hindu calendar year. The benchmarks, however, fared better than global peers.
"The resumption of growth at the global level and particularly on the domestic front is required to shake off the sluggish mood and get back on the path of a sustained uptrend in the market," according a report by HDFC Securities.
Amid hazy global scenario, India stands out with benefits from food security, domestic demand-driven economy, production-linked incentive schemes across manufacturing and defence, a strong banking system with decade-low bad loans, strong infra capex and rising investments in unicorns, Prabhudas Lilladher said in a note.
Kotak Securities expects consumption-driven sectors including staples and discretionary to outperform in Samvat 2079. The focus on banks could be driven by demand revival in retail sectors, unsecured loans, and corporate resolutions, it said.
The recovery in the domestic commercial vehicle cycle and global original equipment manufacturers opting out of China for sourcing components could aid Indian forging companies, according to Monarch Networth Capital.
