Sensex, Nifty Snap Four-Week Gaining Streak: Market Wrap

The Sensex declined 0.11% to close at 61,679.71 on Friday, while the Nifty 50 closed 0.20% lower at 18,307.65.

Indian stock benchmarks ended lower on Friday, snapping a four-week gaining streak dragged by declines in auto, energy, and oil and gas stocks.

The Sensex fell 0.11% to close at 61,679.71 on Friday, while the Nifty 50 closed 0.20% lower at 18,307.65.

Today, 35 of the Nifty 50 stocks declined while 14 rose.

HCL Technologies Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., State Bank of India, and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. were the top gainers on the Nifty 50.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., NTPC Ltd., Bajaj Auto Ltd., IndusInd Bank Ltd., and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. were the top losers.

Sectorally, PSU banks, IT and realty were the top gainers of the week while media, auto and FMCG were the top laggards.

The broader indices underperformed larger peers with the Midcap gauge declining 0.44% and the Smallcap measure losing 0.45%.

Eighteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. declined with BSE Auto losing 1.23%.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of bears. About 1,443 stocks rose, 2,054 fell and 129 remained unchanged.
