India's stock benchmarks declined the most in over two weeks since Sept. 26, dragged by losses across sectors led by metal, information technology, realty and telecommunication stocks, and amid a slide in global equities.

The Sensex lost nearly 850 points (1.46%) to close at 57,147.32. The Nifty 50 fell 1.5% to close below 17,000.

Today, three of the Nifty 50 stocks rose while 47 fell.

Divi's Laboratories Ltd., IndusInd Bank Ltd., Eicher Motors Ltd., JSW Steel Ltd. and Nestle India Ltd. were the top losers in Tuesday's session.

The broader indices almost mirrored their larger peers. All 19 sectoral measures compiled by BSE Ltd. declined.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of bears. About 1,079 stocks rose, 2,351 fell and 133 remained unchanged.
