Sensex, Nifty Fall As Asian Paints, Titan, L&T Decline: Mid-Day Market Update

Sensex fell 0.2% to 56,417.38 after having added over 560 points on the BSE. The Nifty 50 too declined 0.14% to 16,834.6

India's stock benchmarks erased all earlier gains, dragged by consumer discretionary, information technology, banking, capital goods, and consumer durables stocks.

However, energy, FMCG, healthcare, metal, and oil & gas stocks advanced.

The Sensex shed over 125 points or 0.2% to 56,417.38 after having added over 560 points, or 1%, to hit intraday high of 57,166.14 on the BSE. The Nifty 50 too declined 0.14% to 16,834.65. Among the Nifty 50 constituents, 26 stocks rose while 24 fell.

Hindalco Industries Ltd., Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., ITC Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. were the top gainers.

Asian Paints Ltd, Titan Company Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd. and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. declined the most among Nifty 50 constituents.

The mid cap index almost mirrored its larger peers, while small cap measures outperformed the Sensex and Nifty, rising 0.33%. Ten of the 19 sectoral gauges compiled by BSE Ltd. declined.

The market breadth is skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,869 stocks rose, 1,416 fell and 149 remained unchanged.
