Sensex, Nifty Edge Higher As FMCG, Metal Stocks Gain: Midday Market Update

Sensex gained 0.25% to 61,300.11 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50 advanced by a similar magnitude to 18,203.35 on the NSE.

India's stock benchmarks advanced, aided by gains in consumer durables, FMCG and metal stocks.

At 12:54 p.m., the Sensex traded with 0.25% gains at 61,300.11 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50 advanced by a similar magnitude to 18,203.35 on the NSE. Among Nifty 50 stocks, 36 stocks advanced and 14 declined.

IndusInd Bank Ltd., Divi's Laboratories Ltd., Ultratech Cement Ltd., Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd., and Hindalco Industries Ltd. were the top gainers, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Nestle India Ltd., Bajaj Auto Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. and Coal India Ltd. were the top losers among Nifty 50.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers, with the mid-cap index gaining 0.18% and the small-cap gauge losing 0.12%.

Thirteen out of the 19 sectoral measures complied by BSE Ltd. advanced, with BSE commodities and consumer durables gaining the most.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of the bears. About 1,621 stocks rose, 1,705 fell and 167 remained unchanged.
