Sensex Adds 300 Points, Bajaj Auto Biggest Nifty 50 Gainer: Midday Market Update

The Sensex advanced 0.54% (over 300 points) to 57,453.99. The Nifty 50 gained 0.52% to 17,071.05 in the afternoon trade.

India's stock benchmarks advance, aided by gains in FMCG, information technology, auto and banking stocks.

The Sensex advanced 0.54%, or more than 300 points, to 57,453.99. The Nifty 50 gained 0.52% to 17,071.05 as of 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Of the Nifty 50 constituents, 39 stocks rose and 11 fell.

Bajaj Auto Ltd., Coal India Ltd., Power Grid Corp., HCL Technologies Ltd. and Axis Bank Ltd. were the top gainers on the Nifty 50. Adani Enterprises Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., ICICI Bank, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. and Cipla Ltd. were the top losers.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers. The mid-cap gauge gained 0.16%, while the small-cap measure lost 0.2%.

Twelve of 19 the sectoral measures compiled by the BSE advanced, with FMCG rising over 1%.

But the market breadth was skewed in favour of the bears. About 1,450 stocks rose, 1,878 fell and 141 remained unchanged.
