As purported by Variety, Amazon has recently ordered an 8-episode limited series about the FTX debacle from Joe and Anthony Russo’s production house, AGBO. FTX was among the largest and most reputed crypto exchanges in the entire world, and the former founder and  CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was considered as one of the visionaries and upstarts in the cryptocurrency industry. However, as Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto empire collapsed and the FTX exchange crashed, it left the crypto community in a state of shock. The prices of most cryptocurrencies crashed and the whole crypto economy took a big hit. The timing of the FTX collapse was unfortunate since the crypto community was still recovering from the fallout of the Terra Luna collapse.

As reported by Variety, David Weil is set to serve as the writer and executive producer for this unnamed FTX miniseries. Variety also reported that the Russo brothers are also in discussion to direct the series apart from serving as executive producers. Some other executive producers for this series include Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Natalie Laine Williams. As per Variety, Amazon wants to get this FTX project under production in spring 2023.

“We are excited to be able to continue our great working relationship with David, Joe, Anthony, and the AGBO team with this fascinating event series. I can’t think of better partners to bring this multifaceted story to our global Prime Video audience.”
- said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. (as reported by Variety)

The FTX exchange was founded very recently in 2019, and very quickly become one of the largest players in the cryptocurrency space. So when the company publicly imploded and it was reported that there was massive mismanagement of funds, many governmental agencies started investigating FTX and its former founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. As per Variety, this limited series will be based on ‘insider reporting’ done by a number of journalists who extensively reported on the FTX collapse. However, it is still unclear which specific source materials the story will be inspired from and what the actual storyline will be.

“This is one of the most brazen frauds ever committed. It crosses many sectors—celebrity, politics, academia, tech, criminality, sex, drugs, and the future of modern finance. At the center of it all sits an extremely mysterious figure with complex and potentially dangerous motivations. We want to understand why.”
- the Russo brothers said. (as reported by Variety)

This planned FTX series is not the first of its kind to report on the collapses of promising companies and once visionary entrepreneurs who turned out to be something other than the public believed. Recently, well-known American actress Amanda Seyfried won the Emmy for ‘Best Actress in a Limited Series’ for her exceptional portrayal of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, in a limited series called ‘The Dropout’ which aired on the streaming service Hulu. Another limited series that tackled a similar issue was Apple TV’s ‘WeCrashed’, which starred Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway and told the story of the rapid growth and eventual collapse of ‘WeWork’. As reported by Variety, the Russo brothers are reportedly in talks with several of their older colleagues/actors at Marvel for key roles in this upcoming FTX miniseries.
