Covid-19 India Updates: Active Cases Fall To Lowest In Nearly Two Months

Active Covid-19 cases fell to the lowest in nearly two months as daily recoveries beat fresh additions.

The world’s second-most populous nation added 11,539 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Aug. 21. That, however, is the fourth straight day of more than 10,000 additions.

The active tally is the lowest since June 29.

  • Total patients cured/discharged/migrated: 4,37,12,218

  • Total deaths: 5,27,332

  • Number of fresh cases in last 24 hours: 11,539

  • Daily positivity rate: 3.75%

  • Weekly positivity rate: 3.88%

Active cases now account for 0.23% of the total tally, while recoveries form 98.59%.

India has administered 209.67 crore jabs, with 26.58 lakh vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours. Total tests conducted so far stand at 88.24 crore, with 3.07 lakh in the last 24 hours.

Odisha Reports 287 New Covid-19 Cases

Odisha's Covid-19 tally rose to 13,25,061 on Sunday as 287 more people, including 62 children, tested positive for the virus, a health department bulletin said.

The death toll mounted to 9,163, with one more patient succumbing to the infection, it said.

The state had logged 320 fresh infections and one fatality on Saturday.

Odisha now has 2,485 active cases, while 13,13,360 patients have recovered from the disease.

It tested 16,121 samples in the last 24 hours at a positivity rate of 1.78%, the bulletin said.

Nine Fresh Cases In Ladakh

Ladakh recorded nine new Covid-19 cases that pushed the infection tally to 29,143, officials said on Sunday.

Of the new cases, seven were detected in Leh district and two in Kargil during screening of 2,865 people, including 1,892 air travellers, they said.

Eleven people were discharged from hospital in Leh, taking the overall recoveries to 28,845 in Ladakh, officials said. The number of active cases stands at 69—that is, 61 in Leh and eight in Kargil, officials said.

Ladakh has so far recorded 229 fatalities linked to the infection, of which Leh accounts for the highest 169 deaths, followed by 60 in Kargil.

11 New Covid-19 Cases In Andamans

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported 11 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which took the tally to 10,563, a health department official said on Sunday. All the fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.

The union territory now has 46 active patients, and all of them are undergoing home quarantine. Three persons recuperated from the disease on Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 10,388.

The death toll remained at 129 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.

The administration has conducted over 7.69 lakh sample tests for Covid-19 so far, and the positivity rate stood at 1.37%, he said.

Assam Logs 119 New Covid-19 Cases

Assam logged 119 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 7,43,551, a National Health Mission bulletin said.

The coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 6,679 for the fifth consecutive day. Besides, 1,347 other Covid patients have died due to comorbidities, it said.

The northeastern state detected the new infections from 4,210 sample tests, with a positivity rate at 2.83%. Of the fresh cases, Kamrup Metropolitan reported 34 and Dhemaji 10.

The state had logged 91 new infections with a positivity rate of 2.52% on the previous day.

Assam now has 3,039 active cases, while 7,32,484 patients have recovered from the disease, including 15 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said. The state has so far conducted 2,86,42,979 sample tests for the infection.

The NHM bulletin also said the state has administered 4,94,80,450 doses of Covid-19 vaccines thus far.
