Popular Japanese car company Toyota Motor Corporation has unveiled the first look at their upcoming new fifth-generation hybrid Prius. The Prius is one of the most iconic Toyota cars internationally and the company has just released initial photos and some details of the latest version of the popular Prius model. As per information released by Toyota, the new hybrid Prius will come in 3 powertrain versions: a plug-in hybrid setup, which will be the only option available in Europe initially, and two full-hybrid versions that will be available in other regions such as Japan and the United States.

New Toyota Prius Gets A Style Upgrade

According to the initial promo photos released by Toyota, the new Prius has been given a more sleek and sporty look and an incredibly stylish design that gives the hybrid car an even more couple-like build. The design of the Prius is also somewhat similar to Toyota’s recent new car models and has taken inspiration from bZ EV range of Toyota cars as well as borrowed some design elements from the recently released ‘Crown’ model by Toyota. The new Prius has an attractive full-width LED light at it’s rear that gives the car a unique look. The new Prius is much lower but wider than the current model of Prius and also contains a longer wheelbase than the existing Prius model. However, the overall length of the new Prius is reportedly shorter than the older Prius model. The new Prius also comes equipped with a large floating screen that serves as an entertainment system as well as provides vital information about the car. The new Prius is also equipped with sensors that will flash lights on the dashboard whenever any object is detected as being too close to the car.

Europe To Get Plug-In Hybrid Model, Full Hybrids For Other Markets

As per information released by Toyota, the company will sell Prius in Europe with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This hybrid plug-in powertrain contains a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and can provide a total output of 220 horsepower. The new Prius thus provides an added 99 horsepower over the current Prius’s maximum output of 121 bhp with a 1.8-litre engine. The battery on the newer version of the Prius has also been expanded by 50% to 13.6kWa, ensuring it has an extended range of 90kms as compared to the range of 60kms on the older Prius. Moreover, Toyota is going to provide this particular Europe-exclusive version of the Prius with a solar panel option.

For other regions like North America, Japan, etc, Toyota will sell the Prius in two varying strong hybrid options. These two models will include a 1.8-litre and a 2.0-litre petrol engine combined with a strong hybrid powertrain. Both these models will have much higher power output reaching up to 194 horsepower and they will also contain Toyota’s proprietary E-Four AWD tech. Moreover, all models of the Prius will come with advanced safety features and sensors with cutting-edge tech like Digital Inner Mirror and Advanced Park. At the time of writing, it’s still unclear if this particular version of the Prius will be released in India.
