Reliance Jio Adds Most Active Subscribers For Second Straight Month In May

Vodafone Idea continues to lose active subscribers.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. added the highest number of active subscribers among peers for the second straight month.

The Mukesh Ambani-controlled telecom operator added 31.1 lakh regularly paying wireless users in May, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. That compares with 16.8 lakh additions in April.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. added 10.27 lakh active subscribers in May. Vodafone Idea Ltd. continued to lose users. It lost 7.59 lakh active users in May against 15.68 lakh in the previous month.

The industry's total wireless subscribers stood at 114.5 crore in May against 114.2 crore at the end of April. Of this, Reliance Jio accounted for 35.69%.

Reliance Jio has been India's biggest telecom operator by active customers since July 2021.

Shares of Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. ended 1.13% and 1.5% higher on Tuesday, while the benchmark Nifty 50 closed 0.3% higher.
