Supreme Court Allows Jailed NCP Leaders To Participate In Floor Test

Supreme Court allows jailed NCP leaders Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh to participate in the proceedings of the floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly tomorrow.

Since Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh are in judicial custody of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, both the agencies are directed to escort them to the Assembly to participate in the floor test and bring them back to the judicial custody.

Supreme Court to pronounce order at 9 PM on Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu’s plea against Governor’s direction for floor test in Assembly on Thursday, according to PTI.

Prohibitory Orders In Mumbai Ahead Of Floor Test

Mumbai Police have stepped up security near Vidhan Bhavan ahead of the floor test slated for Thursday and along the route that the rebel MLAs of Shiv Sena are likely to take from the airport, an official told PTI.

"Police and traffic police are on high alert anticipating protests by Shiv Sena supporters against the rebel MLAs when they will travel towards the Vidhan Bhavan," he said.

Police have imposed section 144 of the CrPC banning the assembly of five or more persons and will not allow anybody to gather near the Vidhan Bhavan and surrounding areas in south Mumbai.

Uddhav Thackeray Thanks Cabinet Colleagues For Support

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday thanked his cabinet colleagues for the cooperation they extended in the last two and a half years.

Congress minister Sunil Kedar spoke to reporters after the meeting in Mumbai.

Thackeray had always been respectful to others, he said.

"He thanked the cabinet for their cooperation and said the cooperation would continue," the minister added.

The floor of the House is the only way to settle these issues of democracy, observed the Supreme Court while hearing Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu’s plea against Maharashtra Governor’s direction to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government to take a floor test in the Assembly on Thursday.

“Our understanding is that floor of the house is the only way to settle these issues of democracy,” the bench observed.

Jailed NCP Leaders Move Supreme Court To Vote In Maharashtra Floor Test

Nationalist Congress Party MLAs Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh, both in prison, moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to participate in the Maharashtra Assembly floor test to be held on Thursday.

Both MLAs have been booked for offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The bench has agreed to take up their application at 5:30 p.m. today.

Will Be In Mumbai On Thursday For Floor Test, Says Shinde

Shiv Sena rebel MLA Eknath Shinde told reporters that he will be present in Mumbai on Thursday for floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly.

On Tuesday, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and requested him to ask Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prove majority in Assembly.

"We informed Koshyari that Uddhav Thackeray-led government is in minority as 39 MLAs of Shiv Sena want to snap ties with Congress and NCP," he added.
