Adani Electricity will provide 60% renewable electricity to Mumbai by 2027, setting a global record for a large city, group Chairman Gautam Adani said on Wednesday.

Highlighting the green initiatives of the group's power distribution firm, he said in a post on X that this Diwali, Adani Electricity achieved a landmark by powering Mumbai entirely with 100% renewable energy.

Earlier on Nov. 13, the company announced that Adani Electricity Mumbai made history on Diwali by powering the city with 100% renewable electricity for four hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "This is the first time that a major Indian city has been powered entirely by renewable energy for such a long period of time."

Adani Electricity Mumbai achieved this feat by using a combination of solar and wind energy from its renewable energy portfolio.

The 'Green Diwali' initiative was launched by Adani Electricity Mumbai to raise awareness and encourage people to switch to green energy sources.

In 2023, the company claims to have successfully satisfied up to 38% of its consumers' electricity requirements from renewable sources, and targets 60% by 2027. "By harnessing renewables, we take a giant leap toward reducing the carbon footprint of our beloved city."
