Gautam Adani Briefly Becomes The World's Second-Richest Person

In August, Adani overtook French business magnate Bernard Arnault and family to take over the third spot.

Billionaire Gautam Adani became the second-richest person in the world for a brief period on Friday—as his net worth rose to $153.2 billion—before slipping to number three position again, according to the Forbes Billionaire Index.

Adani's net worth on the Bloomberg Billionaire Index also touched $146.9 billion and trails only behind Elon Musk's ’s $260 billion.

Meanwhile, Bezos’ net worth dropped to $145.8 billion as of 10:38 a.m. in New York following a tech selloff.

The Indian tycoon surpassed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for a short span and was trailing behind Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, whose net worth stood at $273.5 billion, according to Forbes.

After a brief spot at second, Adani slipped to third as French business magnate Bernard Arnault and family took over with his fortune worth $153.5 billion.

The Forbes index is calculated on a real-time basis and reflects changes since 5 p.m. EST of prior trading day.

Adani's net worth now stands only $900 million short of LVMH chief.

In August, Adani overtook Arnault to settle at the third spot. He became the first Asian person to make it to the top three richest persons list in the Forbes Billionaire Index.

Adani has been expanding his coal-to-port conglomerate venturing into telecom, media and alumina.

The group recently acquired Holcim Ltd.'s stake in cement companies Ambuja Cements Ltd. and ACC Ltd. in a $10.5 billion deal.

Shares of Adani Enterprises Ltd., the group’s flagship company, closed 1.24% lower on Thursday at the National Stock Exchange.
