Sales in most segments of India's automotive industry is expected to be muted in June, both over the last year and sequentially, even as the chip supply pain starts to ease for automakers.

Factory-gate shipments of carmakers, barring Tata Motors Ltd., fell month-on-month in June, according to data compiled from research reports of Emkay Global, Jefferies, and Motilal Oswal.

Wholesales rose over a year earlier on a low base as the industry was recovering from the second wave of pandemic-induced lockdowns in the country.

Two-wheeler sales volumes in June are expected to rise over the previous month, barring Hero MotoCorp Ltd. In the commercial vehicle segment too, the analysts are seeing subdued demand.

Hero MotoCorp Sales Rises 3% In June

Hero MotoCorp's sales rose 3.34% yoy to 4,84,867 units in June.

"The growth in volumes indicate the continuously improving consumer sentiment and the company expects the positive trend to continue in the coming months, on the back of a decent monsoon, and encouraging farm activity," it said in a statement.

Eicher Motors' total motorcycle sales rose 44% to 72,594 units in June 2022.

Mahindra & Mahindra's Passenger Vehicles Rises 59%

Mahindra & Mahindra sold 54,096 vehicles in June 2022.

The domestic passenger car sales grew 59% year-on-year to 26,880 units in June 2022.

TVS Motor Company Sales Rises 22% In June

TVS Motor Company registered a growth of 22% in June 2022 with sales of
308,501 units as against 251,886 units in the corresponding month of last year.

"The shortage in the supply of semiconductors has impacted the production and sales of premium two-wheelers," the company said in an exchange filing. "We are working aggressively with alternate sources and taking every effort to improve supplies at the earliest. Some improvement has been seen this month."

Tata Motors Car Segment Sells Record Units In June

Sale of Tata Motors Ltd.'s passenger vehicle segment rose 87% over the same period last year to 45,197 units in June 2022, according to an exchange filing.

"For the month of June’22, sales were highest ever," the company said in a statement, adding that it expects the supply side, including that of critical electronic components to progressively improve going ahead.

  • Overall, Tata Motors' sales rose 82% to 79,606 units.

  • Tata Motor's commercial vehicle sales rose 69% to 37,265 units.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Rise 5.76%

The country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., reported a 5.76% rise in sales in June even as the chip shortage had a minor impact on its domestic sales.

The company sold 1,55,857 units in June 2022 compared with 1,47,368 units over the same period last year.

Bajaj Auto Sales Rise 0.25% In June

Bajaj Auto Ltd.'s sales rose 0.25% year-on-year over the preceding year to 3,47,004 units in June, according to its exchange filing.

Escorts Kubota Sales Down 19.8% YoY In June

Escorts Kubota's agri-machinery segment sold 10,051 tractors in June, down 19.8% year-on-year.

  • Domestic tractor sales fell 22.5% YoY in June at 9,265 units.

  • Exports rose 36.2% YoY at 786 units.

The company expects demand to improve with the onset of monsoon and likely record kharif crop production, rural liquidity and improvement in farmer sentiments.

Eicher Motors Reports 161% YoY Sales Growth In June

  • Total Eicher trucks and buses sales at 6,185 units Vs 2,370 units in June 2021, up 161%

  • Total domestic sales at 5,584 units Vs 1,760 units in June 2021, up 217.3%

  • Total exports at 601 units Vs 610 units in June 2021, down 1.5%.

Ashok Leyland Reports 125% YoY Sales Growth

  • Total vehicle sales in June stood at 14,531 units against 6,448 units in June 2021, up 125% YoY.

  • Domestic sales at 13,469 units vs 5,841 units YoY.
